GEO: get your business cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity
Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude which supplier to call. Those answers name a few businesses and cite a few pages. Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the work of making your business one of them: measuring where you are cited today, publishing pages AI engines can quote, and checking every night whether it moved. Kyn Technology runs this for businesses in Singapore and Southeast Asia, on the same engine it uses for its own site.
Set-up of tracking and the content engine takes about 14 days once scope and access are settled. Rights in the custom work are assigned to the client on full payment, as set out on /legal.

GEO and SEO
SEO earns a position in a list of ten links. GEO earns a mention inside one written answer. The foundations overlap: pages must be crawlable, indexed and accurate. The difference is in what gets quoted. AI engines favour pages that answer a specific question in the first lines, state facts with numbers and sources, and agree with what other sites say about the business.
GEO does not replace SEO. A page that search engines cannot find is unlikely to be cited by an AI engine that searches the web for its answer.
What the service does
Tracks citations every night
A fixed set of buyer questions runs against ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude every night. The tracker records whether the business is named, which page is cited, and which competitors appear instead. The result is a trend, not a single screenshot.
Sets the brief per business
Buyer personas, named competitors and guardrails are set for each business. Guardrails list what the content must never claim: prices that change, results that cannot be proven, regulated advice.
Publishes answer-first articles
Each article targets one question buyers ask, answers it in the opening paragraph, and supports it with facts the business can stand behind. Headings mirror the questions, because AI engines match on them.
Fixes the facts AI engines read
Company name, registration number, address, services and areas served are made consistent across the website, structured data and business profiles. Conflicting facts are a common reason an engine names a competitor instead.
The content engine
KYN’s own site runs on this engine. It has 12 stages, from strategy and research through writing, fact-check, SEO and GEO edit, the quality gate and publishing. About 37 English articles have gone through it.
A 7-point quality gate
Every draft is scored on 7 points before it can publish, including whether the answer comes first, whether each claim is supported, and whether it breaks a guardrail. A draft that fails is rewritten, up to 3 times. A draft that still fails stops and goes to a person.
Indexing on publish
Published pages are submitted through IndexNow, the protocol used by Bing and other search engines to learn about new URLs quickly. Bing’s index is one of the sources AI search products draw on.
The step-by-step method is in the guide how to get your business cited by ChatGPT. Articles can also feed social media content, so one piece of research is used twice.
Where people stay in the loop
- The business approves the question list, personas, competitors and guardrails before anything is written.
- Claims about the business, its prices and its results are checked by a person before publishing.
- Drafts that fail the gate 3 times go to a person, not to the website.
- Publishing can be set to automatic or to approve-each-article.
Limits
No one can guarantee a citation
AI answers change between runs, between users and between model versions. Any agency promising a fixed placement is promising something it does not control. The service measures and improves the share of answers that cite you.
Results take weeks, not days
New pages need to be crawled, indexed and picked up. Expect the first movement in the tracker over weeks. The nightly data shows whether it is happening.
Not volume publishing
Hundreds of thin pages hurt more than they help. The gate exists to stop weak articles, including ones the engine wrote itself.
Data protection
Citation tracking queries public AI products with generic buyer questions and stores the answers. No customer personal data is sent. Where articles use client material, it is cleared with the client and stripped of personal data under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act. Fees are on /pricing.
Frequently asked questions
What is generative engine optimisation?
GEO is the practice of making a business appear and be cited in answers written by AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. It covers measurement, answer-first content, consistent business facts and technical access for crawlers.
Is GEO different from SEO?
It builds on SEO. Pages still need to be crawlable and indexed. GEO adds a focus on being quoted inside an answer: clear answers in the first lines, supported facts, question headings and consistent facts about the business across the web.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us?
No. AI answers vary by run, user and model version. KYN measures how often you are cited across a fixed question set every night and works to raise that share.
Which AI engines do you track?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, nightly, against a question list agreed with the business. Competitors named in the answers are recorded too.
Who writes the articles?
A 12-stage engine drafts, fact-checks and edits them, and a 7-point gate rejects weak drafts. The business approves the brief and the claims about itself. Publishing can require approval on every article.
How long until results show?
Set-up takes about 14 days once scope and access are settled. Movement in citations usually shows over weeks, as new pages are crawled and indexed. The nightly tracker shows the trend.
