Search Console: "Discovered, currently not indexed".
The page is in the sitemap and in Search Console’s report, but its status stays "Discovered, currently not indexed" for more than two weeks and it earns no impressions.
Cause.
Google found the URL but chose not to crawl it yet. On a business site the usual reasons are thin or near-duplicate content, no internal links to the page, a sitemap with hundreds of URLs and little crawl budget, slow server responses, or a page that reads like the other forty on the site.
Fix.
| 01 | Link the page from a hub and from two related articles; a page with no internal links is low priority. | |
| 02 | Check the page answers a distinct question in its first paragraph and differs in title and heading set from its neighbours. | |
| 03 | Submit the URL through IndexNow and request indexing in Search Console once; do not resubmit daily. | |
| 04 | Confirm the server answers in under a second and the page is not blocked by robots or a noindex tag. | |
| 05 | Wait 14 days; if still unindexed, rewrite the page against the query it targets rather than adding more pages. | |
How the build avoids it.
KYN’s engine links every new article from its product hub and two related pieces, submits it to IndexNow on publish, and flags any page unindexed after 14 days for a rewrite rather than a resubmit.
Checked 13 October 2026 against a live build. Vendors change behaviour; if a step no longer matches, tell us and the page changes.
Questions operators ask
Is "Discovered, currently not indexed" a penalty?
- No. It is a crawl priority decision. The page is known and not yet fetched; the fixes are about making it worth fetching.
Does requesting indexing help?
- Once, yes. Repeated requests do nothing. Internal links and a distinct answer do more.
Should I remove old articles to free crawl budget?
- No. Removing 37 articles cost this site 46% of its blog impressions in October 2026. Improve or merge; never remove.
How long is normal?
- Days to two weeks for a linked page on a site that is crawled daily. Beyond that, treat it as a content problem.
