If your marketing already runs in HubSpot, start with HubSpot's AI features, branded Breeze. They work on the data you hold in HubSpot and cost less to adopt than a build. A custom marketing agent is the better choice when your channels, data or approval rules sit outside HubSpot, or when you want the content logic and record in your own cloud account.
What is HubSpot Breeze?
Breeze is HubSpot's name for its AI features and agents across content, social, prospecting and customer support. HubSpot describes the current set and plans on its AI page. We do not repeat feature lists or prices here, because both change. Check them on the day you decide.
What matters for the comparison is the shape: Breeze is inside the HubSpot suite. It acts on contacts, campaigns and content stored there, under HubSpot's permissions.
When is Breeze the right choice?
- HubSpot is your marketing system of record. Contacts, lists, forms, email and reporting already live there.
- Your tasks are standard. Draft a blog outline, write email variants, summarise a contact, score a lead.
- You want low setup. Turning on a feature costs hours. A build takes weeks.
- Your team is small and generalist. Nobody wants to own custom code.
For a company in this position, a custom agent is a cost without a clear return. Our guide on HubSpot alternatives for Singapore SMEs covers the opposite decision, when to leave the platform.
When does a custom marketing agent fit better?
Your data is not all in HubSpot. Enquiries arrive on WhatsApp. Quotes sit in an accounting tool. Past clients are in a spreadsheet. A marketing agent that sees only HubSpot will mis-target and mis-time.
Your channels are local. In Indonesia, WhatsApp, Instagram and marketplaces carry much of the buying conversation. In Hong Kong, WhatsApp and WeChat patterns differ. An agent built around your actual channels beats one built around email and forms.
Your content needs a fact check. If you publish claims about regulation, pricing or product specifications, the agent should draft from a source you control and cite it. A custom system can refuse to publish a number that has no source.
You need rules the suite does not express. For example: never message a contact who asked to stop on any channel; never mention a competitor by name in a draft; hold any post that includes a price for a person.
How do the two compare?
| Question | HubSpot Breeze | Custom marketing agent | |---|---|---| | Where it works | Inside HubSpot | Across your channels and databases | | Data source | HubSpot records and connected apps | Any source you connect | | Content rules | Prompts and settings | Code, with checks that block output | | Approval | Workflow settings | A rule: named person approves before send or publish | | Record | HubSpot | Your database, in your cloud account | | Setup | Hours to days | Weeks to a few months | | Cost shape | Per HubSpot plan and usage | Build fee, then monthly retainer |
What does a custom marketing agent actually do?
Think of it as a set of narrow agents, each with a job and a limit.
- Brief. Read your offer, audience and recent results, and propose topics.
- Draft. Write an article or message from a source file you approved.
- Check. Verify every external figure has a source link. Reject drafts that fail.
- Review. Place the draft in a queue for a named person.
- Publish. Send or post only after approval, and log who approved.
- Measure. Pull search and channel metrics into one view.
KYN's own article engine follows this pattern at about S$0.06 per article, and an AI search check costs about S$0.05 per check. Those are running costs from our live systems. They exclude review time and the build. See marketing systems.
What are the risks of each route?
With Breeze: the agent can only be as good as the HubSpot data. Duplicate contacts, old lifecycle stages and missing consent flags carry straight into its output. Review its drafts the way you would review a new hire's first month.
With a custom agent: you take on maintenance. Models change, channels change their rules, and a system without an owner decays. This is why our builds include a monthly retainer for changes, monitoring and fixes.
With either: an agent that publishes without review can state something false under your name. Keep a person between draft and publish. Read why marketing agents misqualify leads without channel context for a common failure.
How should you decide?
Answer four questions.
- What percentage of your customer interactions are recorded in HubSpot? If most, use Breeze.
- Which channels carry your enquiries? If some are outside HubSpot, you need the join.
- What claims do you publish that need a source? If many, you need checks.
- Who owns the system in a year? Name one person.
Many teams use both. Keep HubSpot for email and contacts. Add a custom agent for research, content checks and the channels HubSpot does not cover, and write results back to HubSpot.
What should a marketing team measure?
Measure outcomes your team already cares about, and compare before and after. Track the hours per week spent on drafting, the share of drafts approved without edits, the number of claims rejected for missing a source, and the cost per published piece including review. For search, track queries, impressions and citations in AI answers over a quarter, not a week. If a feature or an agent does not move one of these, remove it. A tool that produces more content with no change in qualified enquiries has added cost without value. Decide the measures before you switch anything on, and write them down.
End the pilot with one page: how many drafts an editor approved unchanged, how many contacts live outside HubSpot, and what the editor's review time per draft came to. Name the result that would move you to the other route, and check it at month six.
Where KYN fits
KYN builds custom marketing and sales systems that run in a cloud account in your name. Agents have their own restricted accounts. Every action is logged with the actor. Outbound messages and publishing wait for a named person.
The first 14 days are a review of your stack and interviews with your team. A full build ships in under 90 days. Pricing is a one-off build fee and a monthly retainer of at least twelve months, quoted after the review. See integrations and pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Can a custom agent write to HubSpot?
Yes. HubSpot has APIs for contacts, deals and content. A custom agent can read and write there within your plan's limits, so you keep HubSpot as the front desk.
Is Breeze free?
Some features are included in some HubSpot plans, and others use credits or higher tiers. HubSpot's pricing pages state the current terms.
When should a small team not build a custom marketing agent?
When HubSpot already holds most of your data, your tasks are standard and nobody can own custom code. In that case the suite's built-in AI is the lower-risk route.
