From 1 January 2027, CPF contribution rates rise for employees aged above 55 to 65. The total rate for ages above 55 to 60 goes from 34% to 35.5%, with the employer paying 16.5%. For ages above 60 to 65 it goes from 25% to 26%, with the employer paying 13%. Rates for employees aged 55 and below, above 65 to 70 and above 70 do not change. This article gives the full table, a cost sheet you can copy, and the checks a payroll system needs before January.
What are the CPF contribution rates for 2027?
The CPF Board publishes the changes on its page for the new CPF contribution rates for senior workers. The rates below apply to Singapore Citizens and Singapore PRs from their third year of PR status, on monthly wages above S$750.
| Employee age | 2026 total | 2027 total | 2027 employer | 2027 employee | |---|---|---|---|---| | 55 and below | 37% | 37% | 17% | 20% | | Above 55 to 60 | 34% | 35.5% | 16.5% | 19% | | Above 60 to 65 | 25% | 26% | 13% | 13% | | Above 65 to 70 | 16.5% | 16.5% | 9% | 7.5% | | Above 70 | 12.5% | 12.5% | 7.5% | 5% |
For 2026, the splits were 16% employer and 18% employee for ages above 55 to 60, and 12.5% each for ages above 60 to 65. The CPF Board's page on how much to pay lists the same 2026 table and notes the increase from 1 January 2027.
Where the extra goes: for working employees aged above 55 to 65 who have not reached their Full Retirement Sum, the increase goes to the Retirement Account. If they have reached it, the increase goes to the Ordinary Account.
What does the change cost an employer?
Only two age bands move. The employer share rises by 0.5 percentage point in each. Here is the monthly employer cost on a S$5,000 monthly wage, assuming the full wage attracts CPF.
| Employee age band | 2026 employer | 2027 employer | Monthly change | |---|---|---|---| | 55 and below | S$850 | S$850 | S$0 | | Above 55 to 60 | S$800 | S$825 | +S$25 | | Above 60 to 65 | S$625 | S$650 | +S$25 | | Above 65 to 70 | S$450 | S$450 | S$0 | | Above 70 | S$375 | S$375 | S$0 |
Over twelve months the change is S$300 per affected employee at this wage. For a team of 40 with six employees in the two affected bands, the extra employer cost is S$1,800 a year at S$5,000 wages. The employee share also rises: 1 percentage point for ages above 55 to 60, and 0.5 for ages above 60 to 65. Take-home pay for those employees falls by S$50 and S$25 a month at S$5,000, unless you adjust gross pay.
How do you build the cost sheet?
A cost sheet needs six columns per employee, one row per month.
- Age band at the contribution month. The band depends on age in that month, so a birthday moves an employee into a new band mid-year.
- Citizenship or PR status and PR year. First- and second-year PRs follow graduated rates that differ from the table above.
- Ordinary Wage for the month, subject to the Ordinary Wage ceiling.
- Additional Wage (bonuses), subject to the Additional Wage ceiling.
- Employer share and employee share, calculated from the rate for that band.
- Total cost to company: wages plus employer CPF plus any other levies your payroll holds.
The CPF Board's wage ceilings apply to the contribution base, so a high earner's cost grows more slowly than the rate suggests. Check the current ceilings with the CPF Board before you finalise the sheet. The 2026 rate page refers to a separate Additional Wage ceiling calculator and says different ceilings apply to Ordinary and Additional Wages.
What changes in payroll before January?
Four items need a decision before the December payroll run.
- Rate table. Load the 2027 rates with an effective date of 1 January 2027. Do not overwrite the 2026 table, because late adjustments and corrections for 2026 months need the old rates.
- Age-band logic. Test the boundary cases: an employee turning 56, 61 or 66 during the year.
- Budget. Update headcount cost forecasts for any employees aged above 55 to 65.
- Communication. Tell affected employees that their take-home falls unless you raise gross pay, and give the figure per person.
A single payroll test file with one employee per band and age boundary catches most mistakes in an hour.
What about wages near the boundaries?
The table applies to monthly wages above S$750. Lower bands apply to wages at or below that level, and the CPF Board publishes separate tables. Employees who are first-year or second-year PRs follow graduated rates, and the CPF Board's page notes the table above applies to Singapore Citizens and PRs from their third year of PR status. A cost sheet that applies the main table to every employee will overstate or understate cost for these groups.
Can you automate CPF calculation safely?
Yes, if three controls exist.
- Rates are data, not code. A table with an effective date for each band, loaded by a named person and reviewed by a second.
- Every calculation is reproducible. The payslip stores the inputs: age band, wage, ceiling and rate. You can recompute it a year later.
- A person approves the run. The system prepares the payroll and the CPF file. A named person approves it. Payments wait.
Government sources change rates by announcement, so the system should alert when a rate table has not been reviewed within a set interval. A 2027 table that nobody looked at in October is a risk in December.
Where KYN fits
KYN builds payroll for its own books on 2026 CPF rules, with payslips, bank and CPF files, and a journal for the accounting system. The same pattern, with rates held as dated data, applies to a client system built in the client's own cloud account. Every action is logged with the actor and payments wait for a named person.
Payroll that applies CPF rates by age band is built after a 14-day review of your payroll export and a talk with whoever runs the monthly cycle. The full build ships in under 90 days. See finance systems and operations.
Frequently asked questions
Do CPF rates change for employees aged 55 and below in 2027?
No. According to the CPF Board, rates for employees aged 55 and below stay at 37% in total, with the employer paying 17% and the employee 20%. Only the bands above 55 to 60 and above 60 to 65 change.
Who pays the increase for older employees?
Both. The employer share rises by 0.5 percentage point in each affected band. The employee share rises by 1 percentage point for ages above 55 to 60 and 0.5 for ages above 60 to 65. Whether you offset the employee increase with higher gross pay is a business decision.
Do these rates apply to foreign employees on an Employment Pass?
The table covers Singapore Citizens and PRs. The CPF Board page lists its scope as Citizens and PRs from their third year of PR status. Employment Pass holders are not in that table. See Employment Pass cost for the other costs of hiring a foreign professional.
